<p>HOMOSEXUALITY has always been a controversial issue and last week Tuesday’s Check Point ‘Praying out the Gay Demon’ episode has caused a media uproar. This is despite the constitutional law that clearly stipulates that a person cannot be discriminated against their race, sexual orientation, background and religion. Pastor HQ Nala claims that he can cure homosexuality and pray away what he calls the gay demon, he says that homosexual people are possessed by evil spirits and those can be exorcised.</p>

<p>Members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex community say that the pastor’s claim is spewing hate, perpetuating violence, causing further discrimination and violating the rights of LGBTI people. Greater Alex Today spoke to July Magana, who identifies himself a gay man and has been out of the closet for the longest of times , he says that lgbti people shouldn’t even be affected by the pastors comments because this is just a marketing strategy. “He clearly doesn’t know what being gay is or what being a homosexual means or he wouldn’t utter such claims.</p>

<p>To me he seems like an illiterate person because being homosexual is not a condition or a disease that can be cured or healed, it is purely emotional attraction towards the same sex” Magana said. He further articulates that people believe what they want to believe as much as you can try and educate them, they will never change. Over the years lesbians and gays have been brutally killed and raped as the means of correcting them and the question that begs to be asked is how a sinful act corrects another sinful act.</p>
