<p>TAG Tobacco, Alcohol and Gambling Advisory, Advocacy and Action Group is supporting Public Health England and its campaign of STOPtober by encouraging South Africans to join smokers in the UK and quit smoking for 28 days in October, thereby increasing their chances of quitting forever by five times and saving thousands of Rand.</p>

<p>“We challenge all smokers to stop smoking for only 28 days,” said Peter Ucko, CEO of TAG. “Simply quit today for one day and then repeat that 27 times. That is a small daily target which everyone can achieve.” Corné van Walbeek, director of research for TAG points out that smokers in South Africa smoke an average of just over eight cigarettes per day. “That is 150 packs a year which is R4 500 per year or R375 per month, which is a lot of cash. smoking today,” said Walbeek.</p>
