BABERWA FOOTBALL CLUB was held to 1-1 all draw by Blue Lions FC in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League on Friday at Eldorado Park Stadium in Eldos. The home side opened the scoring with Sello “Ferrari” Molelwa on the 3rd minute. In the stroke of half time, the visitors equalised from the penalty spot. The newly promoted side, Blue Lions came from a goal down to deny the Royals the fifth win of the season and a great start to the season. After missing out on clinching the title last season, the Alexandra side is correcting the wrongs of last season. In five matches Baberwa won four matches, drawn one and yet to suffer a defeat. Despite the draw, the Royals remain on top of the Gauteng ABC Motsepe log with 13 points ahead of Orange Vaal Professional on 12 points.

“After scoring on the 3rd minute I think the boys switched off and allowed the opposition to play but I also think the two forced substitutions due injuries affected us,” said Baberwa coach Thulani Ntshingila Newly promoted Blue Lions won two, lost two and drawn one. Not a bad start to a team from the SAB league that recently hired former Bafana Bafana coach as their mentor. Blue Lions head coach Shakes Mashaba, “I am happy with the boys’ performance for showing character after going down in the first half, we bounced back,” In the other matches, AJ Alexandra United was held to a goalless draw by Dondol Stars at Alexandra Stadium on Saturday. Next match Baberwa play Alexandra United in the Alexandra Derby on the 18th of October 2019 at Alexandra Stadium. But before that, AJ Alexandra United will travel to Eesterus to play LaMasia on the 15th October 2019.
